For brief reminders and quick questions, I like to use text messaging. For college advising, Zoom or FaceTime works well. When it comes to essays, because students tend to open up most easily in writing, we use Google Docs for its collaborative editing features.

While this approach aligns with what works best for the majority of students, communication is tailored to meet each student’s unique needs. For example, students with dyslexia often benefit more from video discussions.
