To write nakedly, we shed our inhibitions. This means letting it all hang out in your first draft. Bad writing, clichés, your fears, yearnings, obsessions. Writing is a process, and with the guidance of your college essay consultant, your final product will be something else entirely—an insightful, well-crafted essay that reveals only your best qualities, a piece of writing you will be proud to show your English teacher, grandparents, and admission committees everywhere.
Will you write my essay for me?
Our clients’ essays are real, and they’re spectacular. Our method helps students find their own authentic voice and style. Admission committees have a name for writing that seems formulaic, overly polished or mature: “DDI,” or Daddy Did It. These days, though, the culprit is usually a ghostwriter. Ghostwriting is not something we do, and not only because it is academic fraud. We believe your essay in your own heartfelt words can be better than anything by a ghostwriter.
This seems too easy. Am I doing it right?
Writing a first draft quickly, with little regard for grammar, punctuation, or style, can be a shock to the system for rule-abiding students. For professional writers, it is a way of life. Your college essay consultant will show you with step-by-step exercises the magic of free-writing. There is no better cure for writer’s block, procrastination, self-doubt, fear of failure, and apathy. This approach saves you time, yes, but more important, it gets you a better result: an honest, brave, insightful essay that will make the real you pop off the page and into your reader’s heart.
What is the cost?
Please see our rates page for details.
Are hourly rates available?
We are not able to offer tutoring by the hour. Unlike chemistry or calculus tutors, most of our work is done asynchronously (only during phone calls and at certain points during the editing process are tutor and student both working on the same thing at the same time). The Naked Essay tutoring process is designed to optimize students’ efforts so that they can focus on their coursework and other commitments. Tutoring by the week allows us to guarantee a superior final product at a relatively fixed and predictable price.
Our business relies on word-of-mouth and repeat families/younger siblings. We are highly vested in making sure our students have effective essays. We never leave families hanging (or with a much larger bill than anticipated) because we underestimated the number of hours required to edit a particular essay. In this way, we find our weekly rates to be more upfront than hourly billing.
Free would be better…
Having a professional writing coach and editor at your disposal is a luxury. To level the playing field a little, we work with two students each season on a pro bono basis. Selection is based on academic merit and financial need. Scholarship applications for summer 2017 tutoring will be due June 14th. Students will be notified Monday, June 19th.
What is the Naked Essay guarantee? Is there any fine print?
We proudly offer a money-back guarantee on all of our tutoring. Our clients aren’t outsourced to recent grads or part-time tutors—you will be working directly with Anna Sharp throughout the entire process. Whether you’re a gifted creative writer looking to take your work to the next level, or a future engineer who would rather chew on scrap metal than pour out your heart to an admissions committee, we tailor our tutoring to your unique strengths and learning style. As a result, all of our students produce engaging, insightful, and effective essays—we guarantee it. If you are anything less than thrilled with the results of our tutoring, we will promptly honor a full refund. There is no fine print, just one clarification: this isn’t a sketchy promise to get you into a particular school. As admissions officers like to say, “a great essay can make the difference between a maybe and a yes,” nothing more, nothing less.
